JIFFY LUBE… the oil change from hell

Now you might think that when you have what appears to be a well organized quick oil change station with employees in uniforms that rattle off an impressive list of what they did to your car to justify that $40 dollar oil change... that you would get a good quality oil change.

By Christopher Cullen Now that the Lake Worth CRA board has voted in favor of a 10% increase in pay for the CRA Director Joan Oliva, there is no better time to point out that, except for one dissenting vote, all were snookered by Ms. Oliva’s argument that her present $100,000 salary is well below the average of CRA directors in other South Florida cities. Unfortunately, at $100,000 per year, Lake Worth taxpayers are already paying a higher than average per capita rate for Ms. Oliva’s services:

	Apparently a majority of the CRA board needs to review the merits of relying on individual due diligence -- lest they risk spawning jokes about how many board members it takes to change a light bulb.

About fifty people from family and extended family gathered from everywhere in the country, from California, North Carolina, Connecticut and elsewhere... to celebrate Vivian's graduation from Medical school... and of course to celebrate family, Mother's Day and friendship. Siesta Key near Sarasota/Tampa was the target and what a marvelous place it turned out to be. Her brother next to her got his Doctorate in Neuro Psychology last year and is working at Yale University for his fellowship.

I’m William Coakley (5934 Lake Osborne Dr/Lantana) and with me today is Larry Silver who is also a Lake Osborne Estates resident and is Chairman of the board of Directors of that Civic Association.

Taxpayers keep paying - the compass building

Not once, not twice, but many times LWM has received calls about poor morale at the utility and other departments. As we all know morale starts at the top and trickles down so it was interesting to hear that LW employees are so crammed for space that they now have four employees working full time in the lunch room at the utility.

In the midst of our financial crisis, where the burden of keeping the city solvent has fallen on residents who are paying additional taxes in the form of 30% more for electricity (projected 48% within two years) and water rates increasing through the roof… the city manager and commission decided to spend more of your money to bail out Compass to whom we were already renting 12,000 sq feet of premium office space a stones throw from city hall… for a lousy $83.00 a month!

Lantana, Atlantis, Lanier Park, Lake Osborne, Floral Park, High Ridge Road, Pine Street, everybody... this is the beginning of a sustained effort to force airport tenants, helicopter training schools, instructors, students and pilots to comply with the County Commission's NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES that were put in place nearly a decade ago (updated in 2005 as well) to protect our communities from further harm due to reptitive training operations over our heads.

PETITIONS will be available for signing between 11 AM and 3 PM Saturday April 24th, at the circled (in red) location above ...right on Lake Osborne Drive. We are hoping that parking will not be necessary and residents can just drive up, read and sign. We will update as necessary as the day draws near.

I was delighted to see that the Commission decided to save the City Museum, and with it dear Beverly Mustaine's job. What does it say about us, though, that we were prepared to shut down the museum and yet we continue to fund a center for illegal aliens? Jo Ann Golden and I sharply disagree on this issue. I say get the illegals out of town. She says coddle them or else they will commit crimes. If that is not negotiating with terrorists than I don't know what is. There are so many parts of Lake Worth that I simply can no longer visit because it breaks my heart to see how third world they have become, compared to their beauty when I was growing up here. What do you think?

How could it be that for five years, the public living around Lantana Airport didn't know about this document which makes it abundantly clear that helicopters that fly over their communities repeatedly... are not even supposed to be there (Sheriff excepted) according to this Palm Beach County Commission document unearthed earlier this year by LWM.

According to the PBCo Department of Airports, 'there was no need to distribute or publish it on their NOISE ABATEMENT WEBSITE for public viewing since it was only important for pilots to see it.' And of course these are the same pilots that have thumbed their noses at these Procedures for five years and counting.

Recently, a request to post these Procedures on the County's NOISE ABATEMENT SITE was made so the public could see for the first time where the helicopters were supposed to be flying. A DOA (Department of Airports) noise abatement rep declined the request saying "...submit that request in writing and we'll consider it."
