Tourists react to Lake Worth beach plan

...still unanimous - they don't like it either!

Editorial opinion

Do any of the people who support the Greater Bay plan ever go to the beach? And when they were there, did they ever ask the elderly, handicapped, parents with small children, surfers, tourists, and just plain people with common sense if they would like to see the beach front parking taken away? Of course not... why would you want to ruin your afternoon at the beach? Greater Bay supporters wouldn't dare ask those questions at the beach... because they do know right from wrong.

One Greater Bay supporter actually bragged that she never goes to the beach and wouldn't consider going. She said "it's time we do something to the beach and if we don't take this opportunity, we may never do anything with it." Okay, so it's better to do something even if it's wrong than to do the right thing? This is juvenile... rather than solve the problem, they give away our most precious asset to out of town developers and made sure we the people couldn't vote on it. Nice folks.

So why are people who don't use the beach so willing to impose their will to dismantle a historical feature attraction of our beach (the beach front parking)? Theories abound, take your pick. The excuse that we can't manage it is so worn out and juvenile that it doesn't get much play anymore. We can't manage our utility either, we pay more and get less... but I don't see these people talking about selling it or letting outside investors take it over. So it's the double standard that bothers me.

Last year a poll was made in the parking lot at random of 150 beach goers and they said it then and they are saying it now and they are saying it with one voice... DON'T SCREW UP OUR BEACH!

Now, we know the city would never think of putting a sign up on the loop road to the beach explaining that they are going to do away with the beach front parking south of the pool. So, if they know better than to do that... then they too, know right from wrong. The question is why, after knowing right from wrong, are they deliberately choosing wrong? They are ignoring the rights of others, ignoring common sense, ignoring the public will... and seem dead set on destroying key historical features which have drawn the public to Lake Worth Beach for nearly a century now. This is a land mark beach and to turn that over to more commercialization is NOT what the people who use the beach want. Greater Bay supporters have aligned themselves against every democratic principle on which this nation is based... and have offended the very concept of FAIRNESS. They have become so disconnected with the beach they typically don't attend, that they have no clue as to what the public which uses the beach wants. And they are acting as if it was THEIR personal group asset to dispose of as they see fit.

Hopefully, reason and fairness will prevail and the voices of the residents and the people from elsewhere in this country and the world that have appeared in these interviews, will be heard sufficiently loud enough that even the demons will tremble... let the people vote; it is their beach and they own it... if you continue to suppress their voices you may hear from them more than you would like to... come next election.
