Lots of people are getting the axe. Sharon Jackson now gone to be replaced by someone who left Fort Lauderdale with that city's blessing. New City Manager, Baldwin is the hatchet man and will take all the blame as the city is dismantled and reorganized. I believe Jackson when she said that she didn't get caught up in politics but...it always seemed as if laws were bent and zoning changed to accommodate developers....it seemed that way. When there is a perception of corruption, and we also read about it on a daily basis happening everywhere even in our own City, it is nearly impossible to turn that around unless a new staff is in place. Sometime thatís what it takes. When we have a majority Commission that wants to spend our tax money to place three items on the ballot, two of which were defeated only 4 years ago, then we have a problem. We seem to keep our City Managers and a lot of other department heads way too long. They have been lasting on average lately about 3 years or so. The U.S. Constitution got it right... two year terms for Congressman. Delegates to the Constitutional Convention believed strongly in the rule of the majority, but they wanted to protect minorities against any unjustness by the majority. It is a must that we elect a candidate with 50% plus 1 of the total vote. Can you imagine someone getting into office with only 18% of the total vote? That's what could happen if this current City Commission gets its way. To preserve democracy, vote NO on 3 year terms; Vote NO on no-run off elections and Vote NO on allowing our police and fire chiefs to live anywhere, even Fort Myers, Florida. We need them here quickly in time of emergency. Just say NO on January 29th.
